Faculty of Pediatrics

Pediatric service of the Ministry of healthcare of Kazakhstan in the system of primary health care (PHC) in the last 10 years was carried out on the Model of the European Institute for General practitioners (GPS) are close to the system of medical care family doctor. This resulted in the transfer of the entire volume of outpatient care for children, previously performed by a pediatrician, into the hands of a General practitioner who serves adults and children together.
This reform did not lead to an improvement in the quality of care, prevention and diagnostic work. Therefore, taking into account the state of medical care for children, the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan adopted a resolution to reopen pediatric faculties, starting from September 2017.
Currently, the number of pediatricians in the country is 2 per 10,000 children, i.e. 900-1000 pediatricians in the whole country. But in the coming years, it is expected to increase the number of doctors providing medical care to children in PHC by more than 2 times.
In 2017 from September 1, resumed the admission of students in KazNMU in accordance with SES – 2017 majoring 5В130300 “Pediatrics”, respectively, license No. KZ50LAA00009777 of the Ministry of education and science for educational activities in the specialty “5В130300 — Pediatrics, 5 years+2” 20 July 2017.
In 2017, on September 1, the first enrollment of students in the Kazakh national medical University named after S. D. Asfendiyarov in the specialty 5B130300 “Pediatrics”took place. Currently, 466 students are studying at the University in the specialty 5B130300 “Pediatrics”.

History of the faculty

The Department of Pediatrics was opened in 1938. Its first Dean was Professor A. I. Malinin from 1938 to 1941. Department of obstetrics and gynecology. From 1941 -1945, the Dean was Professor V. A. Surat, head of the Department of Pediatrics. From 1945 to 1947, Professor O. S. Glozman was the Dean of the faculty. From 1948 to 1954, the faculty was headed by associate Professor of Pediatrics am Kropachev.
From 1956 to 1964the Dean of the faculty was Professor A. I. Avenirova, who was one of the organizers of the pediatric service of the Republic: with her participation and leadership, pediatric faculties and departments of Pediatrics were organized in Semipalatinsk, Karaganda and Aktobe medical institutes.
From 1965 to 1969, the faculty was headed by associate Professor N. N. Vishnyakov. From 1969 to 1978, the faculty was headed by Professor N. A. Barlybayeva. during these years, an internship was organized at the faculty. Academician K. S. ormantayev, a prominent scientist and highly qualified pediatric surgeon (1978-1980, 1988 — 1991), worked as the Dean of the faculty in different years.
From 1980 to 1988, associate Professor G. A. Vuiko was the Dean of the faculty. From 1991 to 1995, the faculty was headed by Professor K. K. Kozhakhanov. In 1995, Professor B. D. Tastanbekov, one of the organizers of the Republic’s health care, was appointed Dean. From 2002 to 2004, Professor T. p. Udartseva was the Dean of the faculty. From 2004 to 2008 Dean of the faculty was Professor A. J. Rzahanov. From 2006 to 2010, the faculty was headed by Professor T. M. Imambayeva.
In 2007, medical schools switched to a new model of training, as a result of which the faculty of Pediatrics was included in the General med. direction.
In 2018, on August 9, the only school of Pediatrics in the Republic of Kazakhstan was established by order No. 623. The school of Pediatrics consists of 6 departments, where more than 120 teachers work, of which more than 60% have a scientific degree. Today, the University trains 327 1st and 2nd year students and more than 400 interns and residents in the specialty “Pediatrics”.
Currently, the training of pediatricians is headed by the Dean of the school of Pediatrics Katarbayev Adyl kairbekovich-doctor of medical Sciences, Professor, head of the Department of children’s infectious diseases.
